The improved sentiment of centre managers reported in our February 2013 survey was short-lived, with only 48% of respondents in the May 2013 survey expecting some growth in sales turnover over the next 12 months, compared with 53% in February. Recent consumer sentiment data mirrors centre managers’ sentiment, with sentiment falling by 11.7% over the last two months. Some performance metrics were quite positive despite a drop in centre manager sentiment. Customer traffic improved marginally, and annual sales turnover growth was surprisingly strong, averaging 4.4% for reporting sub-regional centres and 5.2% for neighbourhood centres.
