Case Study

Dressing up Mattel’s House of Barbie

In 2006, Mattel Inc, the company behind the popular girls’ toy Barbie®, came up with the idea of developing a first-of-its-kind concept-cum-experience retail store in China. Aptly named House of Barbie, the store will feature retail, activities corner, a fashion runway, Barbie®-themed restaurant and bar, Barbie® Spa, a product showcase area and new product launches. The store will offer a unique experience to customers by creating an alternate reality populated by characters from Barbie®.

With Jones Lang LaSalle acting as Mattel’s strategic project management consultancy partner, the project commenced in May 2007 and was scheduled for completion by December 2008.

Our experienced team of project management specialists provided various services, including design and programme management, landlord coordination and procurement and management of facility architect—all of which proved invaluable to Mattel as it tried to make this complex retail project into a reality.

Our expert advice and services enabled Mattel to reduce project costs by 10%—a testament to the real value Jones Lang LaSalle delivers to its clients.
